PhD Francisco Serrano Bernardo

Associate professor (University of Granada) and research group leader (RNM-197)

The research activity has been carried out for more than 20 years within the Andalusian Research Plan Group “Environmental Management and Technology” (RNM-197), linked to research lines related to Environmental Impact Assessment and Strategic Environmental Assessment, Landscape Restoration and Integration, Natural Resource Management and Use, Environmental Management Systems, and the Management of Protected Natural Areas and Sustainable Development Policies, among others.

This work has led to results reflected in more than twenty publications included in the Journal Citation Report/Science Citation Index or other databases with highly regarded relative quality indices in their field. Some of these publications occupy a notable position within their area of knowledge or have a remarkable impact factor. In addition, there are three books (one as editor) and around twenty book chapters published by prestigious national and international publishers, as well as participation in nearly forty conferences — some of them of major international and/or European relevance, including invited talks and plenary lectures.

These high-quality scientific dissemination results stem from more than twenty-five research projects or contracts, including those obtained through competitive calls from the National R&D&I Plan, AECID’s PCI and CAP Programs, regional initiatives such as the Junta de Andalucía’s Excellence Projects, and European projects such as TEMPUS and Erasmus+ Capacity Building. There are also R&D&I contracts with various public entities such as the Regional Ministry of Public Works of the Junta de Andalucía and other local administrations, as well as private companies. The applicant has served as Principal Investigator (PI) in five of these projects.

Among the knowledge transfer and application activities, it is worth highlighting the granting of a patent. The researcher is also a founding partner of the company STEVIGRAN, S.L., a knowledge-based enterprise (Spin-Off) emerging from the University of Granada. Similarly, the researcher has continuously developed environmental consultancy work as lead or collaborating researcher, focused on knowledge transfer to the infrastructure and road sectors through various specific actions. Some of these are detailed in this section, while others are part of professional activities. The participation as manager and/or advisor in projects related to Environmental Impact Assessment, Vegetation Cover Restoration and Landscape Integration, Environmental Management Systems, and the Management of Protected Natural Areas has been particularly significant.

At present, the researcher holds four five-year teaching periods (quinquenios) and two six-year research periods (sexenios).
